Singapore Tour 2024: Asia Pacific Cup

In 2024 we embarked on our first International tour heading to Singapore for the Asia Pacific Cup. Taking 31 players across three teams including U14 Boys, U14 Girls and U12 Girls.

Our teams had a great time on court with our U14 Girls taking the Championship trophy, the U12 Girls also finished Runners Up. We also had two players get Finals MVP Esther Taleni (U14G) and Miah Dover (U12G).

The games were physical, fast and alot of learning for all players on taking their game to the next level.

Off the court we dove into the culture with food, Mosques and more. We went to Singapore Zoo, Universal Studios, Garden by the Bay and China town for some.

Overall this was an experience of a lifetime, one we will ensure many more players and families and experience. Memories for a lifetime!

Multicultural Basketball Tournament 3x3, 2024

In 2024 we launched our first Multicultural Basketball Tournament. We presented this tournament as a 3x3 event and represented main cultures of First Nations, Pasifika and Maori. After filling these teams, the tournament when then opened to Invitational teams which are people of any other cultures.

I am a proud Kunja woman from Cunnamulla born on Yugambeh Country.  Lana (who came up with the idea to run this) is a proud Māori and Tahitian Wahine, she was born and raised Aoteraroa and hails from King Country and Auckland. Her iwi is Taino and Ngāti Maniapoto. We both have a passion for basketball and young daughters of our own who play at RedCity with Miah also being Torres Strait Islander and Jadeana being Samoan which is why we chose First Nations, Pasifika and Māori to start. There are many Multicultural events around, which is great, but we wanted to provide a space where culturally you can be supported, have fun and bring everyone together while playing the game we all love! This is just the start for us!

Ensuring culture was bought alive we had Uncle Billy do an acknowledgement of country, and we had players perform cultural dance of their heritage as our games opener. It was a great day and one that has inspired us to do more in this space!
